Laela Wins Second of the Season; Amelia Sets NLRA Record
Laela in victory lane Sunday at Buffalo River
WEST FARGO, N.D. (June 3, 2025) - Laela Eisenschenk is officially on a roll as she picked up her second win of the season Sunday night at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, MN in the IMCA Sprint Car division. Amelia set a new NLRA record for highest finish for a female driver Friday night with the Northern Late Model Racing Association at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND.
On Sunday night at Buffalo River, Laela ran the IMCA Sprint while Amelia climbed back into her WISSOTA Late Model. Laela started on the outside of the front row in the Sprint feature. It took four tries to get a green flag lap in the books, but once the race got underway, Laela led the opening lap.
Laela continued to lead following cautions on laps four and eight respectively and a red flag on the lap eight restart. The remainder of the race went caution free with Laela leading every lap to win her second feature of the season.
“It's hard to keep your momentum going when you're going through a lot of yellows,” Laela said in victory lane post race, “but I just kept my head cool and kept my car rolling through there.”
Amelia started ninth in the Late Model main event Sunday at Buffalo River. On a lap five restart, Amelia made a trio of passes in turns three and four to climb into the top five. Following a lap seven caution, Amelia, the only driver to use the top of the quarter-mile oval, made her way into the top three and chased down leaders Mitch Johnson and Rusty Kollman to battle for the lead.
Following the final caution with seven to go, Amelia continued her battle with Johnson and Kollman, ending the race with her second podium of the weekend with her third place finish.
The duo spent Saturday night honoring their Grandfather during the third running of the Danny Schatz Memorial at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Laela came into the event as the most recent winner at the third-mile oval and started on the outside of the front row in the main event with Amelia starting outside row five.
Just past the midway point, Laela had been keeping pace with leader Jeremy Kerzman in traffic but lost a few spots in traffic late as the race went caution free finishing fifth with Amelia 11th.
The duo’s appearances with the NLRA Late Models at Norman County and River Cities were highlighted by Amelia’s third place run Friday at River Cities. Amelia kept eventual winner Dustin Strand within striking distance as they started working lapped traffic through ten laps.
Amelia and Tyler Peterson battled for second throughout the second half of the 25-lap event, finishing third after a couple of late cautions. Amelia’s finish is the best for a female driver in series history.
This week the duo will head back to River Cities, this time with their 410 Sprint Cars before heading to I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls on Saturday and possibly back to Buffalo River Sunday with the NLRA Late Models.
